- Working memory: The ability to hold information in consciousness for adaptive use. This can include information from all sensory modalities, verbal and nonverbal ones. Working memory is conceptualized to include two separable components: maintenance of information and manipulation of information. Maintenance of information includes memory for verbal information, spatial information and other information (including emotional) across multiple sensory channels.
